Surgery-information Sheet

Surgical Information Sheet for Auburn Veterinary Service

Thank you for entrusting Auburn Veterinary Service with the care of your pet! To expedite the check-in process on the day of surgery we ask that you read through the information below. If you have any questions, feel free to call our office at (217) 615-5500.

For most surgical procedures we require a 12 hour fast, so your pet should not be fed after 8:00 pm the night before his/her surgery. Water consumption is allowed. There may be special circumstances in which this recommendation may change. Your veterinarian will advise you of any changes to the protocol.
Drop off time for surgery is between 7:30-8:00 a.m. on the day of the procedure.

Surgical patients will stay the night with us following their surgery unless otherwise stated by the veterinarian. Routine dental cleanings typically go home the day of the procedure.

Pick-up time is after 9:00 a.m. the day after surgery.

Your pet will receive a post-operative pain injection following his/her procedure. Take-home pain medications will be dispensed for an additional fee and are recommended to keep your pet as comfortable as possible.

Pre-anesthetic blood work is available and recommended for all animals to aid us in detecting pre-existing conditions that may not be evident during a routine physical examination. Blood work is required for all pets over the age of 7 years undergoing anesthesia.

Micro-chipping is available and recommended as a way to help ensure the safe return of your pet if he/she would ever go missing.

If your pet has not been previously seen by us, we will perform a pre-surgical exam ($15 charge) prior to anesthesia.

Proof of current vaccinations will be required; otherwise, vaccinations will be given while hospitalized. Pet owners will be responsible for this additional cost.

If fleas are noted on your pet, appropriate treatment will be given to protect our other patients from infestation. Pet owners will be responsible for this additional cost.

Listed below are the in-house blood work options. You will be asked at check-in which you would like to include.

Complete Blood Count- Recommended for all surgical patients; required for pets > 7
Pre-anesthetic Profile- Recommended for all surgical patients less than 7 years
General Health Profile- Required for surgical patients older than 7 years

We appreciate your business and look forward to caring for your pet!
